Nine Questions to Ask Before You Buy a Water System in Ottawa
The water treatment industry has a reputation for pressure selling. These questions will tell you quickly whether you're dealing with an honest company.
Water treatment is one of the few home purchases still sold at the kitchen table, and some companies have built their model on urgency and confusion. You can cut through most of that with nine questions.
1. Can I see my actual water test results?
Not a demonstration with a colour-changing reagent. Numbers, on paper, for hardness, iron, manganese, pH and total dissolved solids.
2. Is this quote the final price with installation?
Ask specifically whether labour, fittings, drain lines, permits and disposal of old equipment are included.
3. Who performs the installation?
In-house crews or subcontractors changes what happens when something needs correcting later.
4. What exactly does the warranty cover?
Tanks, valves, labour and consumables are usually covered on different terms. Get the distinction in writing.
5. Who stands behind the warranty?
Ours is warrantied through a local Ottawa business you can drive to, not a distant call centre.
6. Are the components certified?
Look for NSF/ANSI or WQA certification on media, membranes and valves.
7. What is the ongoing cost?
Salt, cartridges and membranes. Get an annual figure so you can budget honestly.
8. Does the price expire today?
If yes, walk away. A fair price on Tuesday is still a fair price on Friday.
9. Can I speak with customers nearby?
Any established local company should be able to point you at installations in your own neighbourhood.
